DIY Clothing Rack { 30 minute project }

Today I am sharing a super fun 30 minute project!  I am currently working on a big project that will be a secret until the final reveal, and this clothing rack is a fun part it!

I gathered all of my supplies from the following places:

Harbor Freight- 2- 4'" casters & 2 - 4" swivel casters
Lowes- 3/4" Craft Masters Pine board (16" x  48")
Home Depot - Black Steel pipes and fittings (this may vary depending on your desired size)
                        3/4" Stainless wood screws
Stainless bolts, nuts & washers

I laid down a drop cloth and used it to lay out all of the pipes and fittings.  The black steel comes coated and can get messy.

It did take two of us to build the frame in order to get it extra tight and sturdy.

Once it was built, we took it outside and using steel wool and dawn dish soap we scrubbed the pipes to remove any greasy residue. (do this if you plan to hang any cloth material on it)

Once the frame was complete, we added the casters to the wood base.

We then attached the pipe frame to the base.  You can stain the board first, but then this would no longer be a 30 minute project, because you would then have to wait for the stain to dry.

Once it was all put together I used Minwax Dark Walnut stain, and carefully went around the steel flanges.  Once the entire piece was brushed with stain, I used a rag to wipe it down and reveal the amazing wood grain.

Have I told you how much I love dark stain?  Stain may have moved into my #1 spot over spray paint, which is saying a LOT!!

And just like that it was done!  We did leave for a quick round of golf, and by the time we returned it was perfectly dry and ready for photos!

The pipe aisle at Home Depot can be so fun when it comes to designing something like this.  Here is a close up of the side hook I designed.

I was worried that the stainless bolts would stick out like a sore thumb on the black steel, but I think they look perfect.

Here is an example of how you could use this.  The side hooks provide so many options for use.  I have visions of building a similar one for my laundry room and getting creative with the final function of the piece.

This turned out exactly how I had envisioned it, and will be perfect in it's new home!  I cannot wait to share that project with you all here soon!
